Questions
Why is the ZPL so large?
A PDF page becomes a picture of the label, every dot of it. A 4×6 label at 203 dpi is about 120 KB in hex. Choose Z64 to compress it, usually to a tenth of that.
Can I edit the text after converting?
No. The page is converted as an image, so the text and barcodes are pixels in a ^GFA graphic. To edit a label, build it with ZPL fields in the viewer instead.
Will the barcodes scan?
Usually, when the PDF page matches the label size and the printer density. Barcodes drawn smaller than the printer can resolve lose bars, so convert at the real size and check a print.
Can I convert PDF to ZPL from my code?
Today in the browser only. In your code, rasterise the page at the printer's density (with pdf.js, Ghostscript or pdfium), threshold it to black and white and write it as ^GFA, as this page does.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. It is read and converted in this browser with pdf.js, and nothing is sent to a server.
